|Some Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the date format in the catalogue and "my library account"
modules? For example, if a patron's books are due on 07-06-07, is that
June 7 or July 6?
The month always comes first followed by the day and then the year.
2. Where are the washrooms located (in branches too)?
The closest bathrooms are located outside the library. Go down the hallway in the opposite direction from the cafeteria. The men's washroom is first followed by the women's washroom.
3. How can I pay my library fines? Can I pay online/by credit card?
We only accept cash in the library. You can choose to ask for a receipt for your records. If you would like to pay with debit or credit, fines can be paid in Admissions.
4. Is there a printer and/or photocopier available? How can I use it?
Black and white printing is available to current students of Yukon College. Students can print from the computers close to the windows at the back of the Innovation Commons. A photocopier is expected to be available to students sometime before April 2019.
Printing or photocopying is not available to members of the public. Public patrons are encouraged to use their mobile devices to make copies of book sections or other physical materials. Contact library services staff for more information on how to use mobile devices for scanning purposes.
5. How do I access materials that are in storage?
Fill in the "Items from Storage Request" form available from the Library Services Page (http://www.yukoncollege.yk.ca/library). Or ask one of the Library Staff members for assistance.
6. Are there study rooms available? Do I need to book one?
The new Learning & Innovation Commons has 9 study rooms available as a first come, first serve basis. Students also have the option to request booking to secure a room and time slot. 7. Where is the campus Writing Centre or Learning Commons (for tutorials on how to write essays) - do they have a website?
The College's Writing Centre is located in the College Library on the left as you walk in. For more information, go to http://www.yukoncollege.yk.ca/student_info/pages/writing_centre
8. Is the library open to the public? What services can they use? What about alumni?
Yes, the library is open to the public. Members of the public can purchase a Public Library Card for $50.00. It lasts for a year and you can sign out up to 5 books at a time. If you want to use the databases, you can only do so from one of our research computers, or from your own device if it is connected to the College wireless network.
9. If an alumnus or community member obtains a library account, will it give them access to databases and eBooks?
Licensing restrictions do not permit this kind of access. However, you can access some of these resources while in our library.
10. Which computers in the library have Microsoft Office - full version and reader?
